Testing simple approaches to map sediment mobilisation hotspots after wildfires

چکیده

Background The models currently used to predict post-fire soil erosion risks are limited by high data demands and long computation times. An alternative is map the potential hydrological sediment connectivity using indices express general properties of burnt landscape.Aims In this study, we aimed answer question: Do these tools identify mobilisation hotspots? Methods To achieve this, assessed spatial variability distribution location hotspots Index Connectivity, Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation Sediment Export, compared it with simulation results a more complex Landscape Evolution Model (LAPSUS model). Additionally, evaluated statistical measures association between four tools.Key three tested in study suitable for identifying hotspots, where rates above 95th percentile, differences their performance small. Conclusions indicate that help locate extreme locations recently areas.Implications These can be considered water contamination risk management, especially fast prioritisation areas needing emergency intervention.

Early versus late mobilisation after simple excision of the trapezium.

We randomly selected 39 patients undergoing excision of the trapezium for osteoarthritis of the first carpometacarpal joint into two groups, with mobilisation either at one or at four weeks after operation. The patients were reviewed at a median of six months (6 to 8). The clinical details, the severity of the disease and the preoperative clinical measurements of both groups were similar. Excis...

Very early versus delayed mobilisation after stroke.

BACKGROUND Very early mobilisation is performed in some stroke units and recommended in acute stroke clinical guidelines. It is unclear whether very early mobilisation independently improves outcome after stroke. OBJECTIVES To determine the benefits and harms of very early mobilisation (commenced within 48 hours of stroke) compared with conventional care. SEARCH STRATEGY We searched the Coc...

New approaches to immunotoxicity testing.

New approaches to immunotoxicity testing are reviewed and discussed. A method of activating T-cells in vivo is presented which circumvents artifacts dur to viability effects encountered with in vitro mitogen assays. The use of adoptive transfer approaches to combine the advantages of in vitro manipulation with in vivo function assays is discussed relative to natural killer cells. The need for a...

General Statistical Approaches to Procedural Map Generation

Procedural content generation (PCG) studies the algorithmic creation of content (e.g., textures, maps), typically for games. PCG has become a popular research topic in recent years, but little has been done in terms of generalized content generators: approaches that can generate content for a variety of games without hand-tuning. We are interested in exploring statistical algorithms that could ...

Simple, proven approaches to text retrieval

This technical note describes straightforward techniques for document indexing and retrieval that have been solidly established through extensive testing and are easy to apply. They are useful for many different types of text material, are viable for very large files, and have the advantage that they do not require special skills or training for searching, but are easy for end users. The docume...
